Alcohol Awareness

The informative article written by Donald A. Misch, titled Changing "The Culture Of Alcohol Abuse On Campus: Lessons Learned From Secondhand Smoke" he informs his readers on alcohol abuse on campus and how it can be prevented.
In the article by Donald A. Misch, the author describes the affects of second hand smoke on college campuses and relates it to secondhand alcohol abuse. He also talks about the hazardous results of alcohol abuse among students.  Misch uses examples of statistics and recent findings to inform the reader on the rapid increase of second hand alcohol abuse.

I agree with the article because so many different things happen on campus when alcohol is involved. Being aware of the use of alcohol on campus can prevent things like assault, abuse and much more. Having a drink when you are of the legal age is okay but getting drunk is never alright.

Deep Sea Diving

Roberts wrote this article to bring attention to our under water creatures. The fact that our underwater creatures are becoming extinct and most people aren't paying attention bothers him. The audience is everybody but mostly other scientists. If other scientists or pro earth people realize what’s going on, precautions will be made to stop it. He formed this article using regular paragraphs. His tone was formal using other research he collected and the names of different species of animals. The author made it a point to seem like his biggest fear would be that jelly fish and algae would take over the sea. What made this article relevant was the fact that this issue is going on right now. There are debates on what fishermen should do. Roberts want people to start paying more attention to the sea before we no longer have any whales, sharks or certain type of fish.

Do You Know What You're Doing?

Robert Pfeiffer wrote an article called "Connecting To Texts: Writing A Literary Analysis" about analyzing different pieces of work. The context of the article is explaining to students how to properly analyze different works. The purpose the author wrote this article was to inform students on a certain technique while they are reading. The genre is a formal argument. I say formal because he gives example on how to do it right. the audience is mainly for students but it can also before anyone who reads literature and wanted to analyze the work they were reading. The style is formal and the arrangement is he puts a paragraph then bullets. The paragraph explains and the bullets give examples.

Project No Spanking

Murray Stratus wrote a research article called “New Evidence for The Benefit of Never Spanking” to argue that parents spanking their children is ineffective and should be stopped.  He supports this thesis by giving examples of recent research and studies that were released. Murray wants other researches and people that are against spanking their kids to figure out better ways to inform parents of how wrong it is in order to persuade the parents. The intended audience is other researchers and people who are against spanking kids.

I partly agree with the text of this article. I believe that spanking your child should not be the first option you choose but I don’t agree with it being wrong and unethical. My parents whopped me as a child and I turned out perfectly fine. They didn’t whoop me all the time though. The only time they would choose to whoop me is if I repeated the same wrong doing over and over after they told me it was wrong. I was always warned before they whooped me too. They would say “the next you do this I will whoop you” I honestly think that was a fair warning.
This article is a formal informative article. The audience was other researchers and people who opposed spanking their kids. The author gives examples of better ways to make it noticeable to parents that spanking is bad. Like “there can be a “No-Spanking” poster and pamphlet in every pediatrician’s office”

Disciplining Kids

In the non-fictional article by Shirley Henderson, "To Spank or not to Spank", Henderson explores the various ways of disciplining children. The author describes the different ways of disciplining kids through physical and non-physical ways of punishment in order to inform parents of the good and bad outcomes of each method.

The article appears to focus on a topic that brings out different opinions from various readers. For example, readers with kids of their own may have different methods of discipline for their children rather than the readers without kids of their own. According to Henderson's research, parents tend to practice more of a physical approach to disciplining kids. She also brings in the account of how ones race effects their technique of disciplinary action.
